Bristol is experiencing a renaissance in its local food culture, with growing numbers of us feeling passionate about where and how the food we eat is produced. Luckily, there are some outstanding local producers in the Bristol area, striving to put on your plate the tastiest, freshest and most ethically produced fruit, veg, meat, poultry, bread and cheeses. You can buy these directly from the proud producer at the bustling St. Nicholas Farmer’s Market on Corn Street, or possibly in your neighbourhood at one of the newly sprouting markets like the Whiteladies Road Market in Redland or at the Tobacco Factory in Southville.
Bristol is sprinkled with delightful delis and food shops with quality and sustainability at the heart of what they do. Alternatively, take the hassle out of grocery shopping by having delicious fruit and veg, and now meat, delivered to your doorstep by one of the excellent organic vegetable and meat delivery schemes.
Fancy getting dirty? Grow your own food by creating an allotment in your garden or at one of the 100 or so allotments sites across Bristol. If you don’t know the difference between a trough and a weed fork, fear not; training courses are available.
Bristol is well known for its quality and variety of restaurants, cafes, and pubs. Discover the pubs and restaurants serving up the freshest, planet-friendly dishes, and where you can wash it down with your favourite tipple. Bristol achieved Fairtrade status in March 2005 and has a growing number of cafés, restaurants and shops flying the Fairtrade flag.
