DAY 4 (Monday 14th): walkouts?

Day 4, UN conference frustrations...

This is going to have to be a quick one but I've got lots to fit in. Again I'm writing from the Kilmaforum which is still a crazy bustling hive of activity though the mood here is palpably changing.

This is because a huge number of NGO/ press delegate passes to the main conference area (the Bella Centre) have been revoked. This means that a lot of the people who had expected to be at the UN conference, many whom have travelled thousands of miles to be here, are now sitting round a crowded table of laptops, wires and empty coffee cups at the KIimaforum feeling ignored and frustrated.

I've spoken to delegates from various NGOs including Friends of the Earth and the '350' movement who have told me about massive queues of delegates waiting in the cold outside the official conference centre and who are being refused entry. I've also been told that even governmental delegates (who were clearly not from the Global North) have also been experiencing difficulities gaining access to the conference.

There is a feeling of massive frustration both outside and inside the conference and I feel that there is a real chance that there will be a walk out of G77 and critical NGOs from the conference on the day of mass action (Wed 16th).

On the upside we will be going to see Naomi Klein speak in the Christiania area of the city tonight.
