DAY 7 (Thursday 17th) - I was in prison...
Copenhagen cops aren't fun
Yesterday was bizarre. It didn't really feel like I was living my life for the whole day. I was arrested whilst on my way to the (legal) demo that was being held outside the COP15 conference centre and detained for ten hours without charge.
I was detained along with well over 100 other people in a warehouse-like jail which was once a beer factory and is now filled with human cages. I spent around 6 hours in this place (which one of the Danish policemen jokingly called 'Guantanamo Junior') and then a further 4 hours in a cell in a different prison. I don't really think I can convey just how horrible this was so I won't try. Suffice to say it wasn't the funnest day so far.
I could probably go on a rant about how this whole event shows what a joke the idea of rights and democracy are in Copenhagen right now but I think it's all pretty self-evident and there are plenty of mainstream news articles about it. The only thing my account of it can add is that these mass pre-emptive arrests are really happening to perfectly normal peaceful people.
I've just read back a few of my last posts and realise that I sound like a bit of a harbinger of doom. Apologies about that but my arrest plus the various articles I've been reading about the actual COP 15 conference (which remains gridlocked and very unlikely to produce anything near like what is required in terms of a legally binding agreement) makes it actually quite difficult to find something positive to write about...
I suppose on the jolly side of things I haven't been arrested today which is nice. I also noticed this fine looking snowy bicycle on one of my Copenhagen strolls...

Bad times...
To lighten the mood - Felix is once again the Guardian's choice to represent protesters everywhere! They just love his face!! If you see him you should let him know...
Good luck for the rest of your time there - hope there's no more arrests.
Thinking of you.
