Up to General Discussion

food futures

Posted by lucy fleetwood at November 24. 2008

I've just started up a group on yahoo called foodfutures. The aim in the long run is to network all people at all levels across the world, who are interested in sustainable food options.

It's a space where people can encourage each other to make sustainable choices, and know what those choices are. It is also a place where people can collaborate with information and knowledge, or just chat about food issues for them and their cultures.

Just thought I'd let you know incase you are interested. The future of food is a big focus at the moment but often people work separately and lack knowledge of all the issues, this group space is to encourage a diversity of discussions and support at all levels.

Best wishes Lucy Fleetwood

Hi Lucy ;

I am working on trying to save the best land on the north Bristol fringe from houses / park and rides etc etc. and am offering some thoughts on all of this to Bristol Community FM this afternoon.

My campaign surrounds a Blue Finger of prime agricultural land next to the M32 and running out into open countryside. It is gradually being covered over BY city development at the very time we need it for strategic food supply FOR the city.

I would like to share your thoughts on all of this and wish you well with the group.

good wishes

Hi Richard,

Who owns the land and are there a number of people who want to work the land or do you have projects waiting in the wings?

Lucy

Hi Richard

Can I read your paper
'Spalding R. (2004) Growing on the blue finger – reconstructing the community of market gardeners working the grade 1 agricultural land of the Frome valley, Gloucestershire.'?

Hi Lucy ;

The DRAFT paper has a slightly different title.

I did some Bristol Community Radio last Tuesday with Laura Hamilton where we talked about the Blue Finger project and Laura think that the programme will be on Radio Bristol early Sat and Sunday morning and accessible to replay at leisure.

I am trying to attach the paper you want to read.

I am going to set up a Blue Finger working group in the new year

good wishes

Hi Richard, it seems the attachment did not make it to the site and I am also very interested to read it. I am with Bristol Friends of the Earth and other local sustainability groups and the topic of making best use of the Frome Valley has come up recently.

BFoE is having a christmas party this Thursday (11 Dec 7:30), it's our regular monthly meeting slot and an open invitation for anyone interested to come and meet us. BFoE has a special interest group on food, it will be a priority campaign next year. There should also be people from other interested groups there. It would be great if you could come so some of us can meet you.

regards Julian

Hi Julian , Lucy, Jane, Laura and other foodies who have expressed an interest in the work I am doing on the Blue Finger of grade 1 agricultural land on the north Bristol fringe. My intention is to link up with all of you interested in developing some practical action ideas on these matters in the new year.

I would like to meet with you at THE agri-cultural icon that is Winterbourne Medieval Barn (see www.winterbournebarn.co.uk for more details) if that is possible.

In the meantime, please see attached some recent writing, without photos, so I hope it comes through.

There is not much energy in the tank at present, but please get back to me with your thoughts on the attached, esp. if it comes through this time

seasons greetings

Richard
